GRANT FOR NEW COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES
The Trust has successfully bid for financial help
from Enfield Council to boost community activities on the Island. When the
Island was built, activities to help residents get to know each other and to
begin to form a real community were an afterthought for the council and the
developer.
Now, the council has agreed to pay the Trust
£38,650 towards the cost of new community activities over the coming year. To
plan and run these activities, the Trust will shortly be employing a community
worker. The Trust aims to use the council money to deliver a programme of
active community involvement activities for people of all ages.
GP PHONE NUMBER RIP-OFF
The Trust has written to the Enfield Island GP asking for a
change of phone number from the expensive 0844 number to a geographic number. A
copy of the letter is here.
BREACH OF COVENANTS
The Trust chairman wrote this letter to Anglian Home Improvements following a court
case on the Island.
A resident built a porch and conservatory without
written permission from the Trust. In addition to the cost of the building
work, estimated by the resident at £30,000, the court ordered him to pay for
the cost of demolishing them, his own court costs, and all or most of the
Trust's legal costs of £29,000.
Homeowners are responsible for abiding by the
covenants, but trustees also felt that Anglian Home Improvements had been
irresponsible as they knew the building works would breach the covenants.
